Construction is well underway at Piedmont Plastics’ Fabrication Division Expansion in Charlotte, NC. Designed by S.C. Hondros & Associates, Inc., as well, this 28,800 SF expansion increases the building’s footprint by 50%. The expansion area is constructed with conventional steel framing and steel channel supports, insulated pre-cast concrete wall panels, and a brick veneer to match the exterior. Steel was chosen as the material of choice for this project as it is strong, hard-wearing, and surprisingly affordable.
To ensure that the construction site remains safe, as can be seen in the bottom image, a shipping container has been rented for the duration of the project. Equipment, machinery, steel parts, and tools are being stored within the container to protect these valuable items from damage and the elements. You can find a wide selection of shipping containers on the Conexwest website where you can also discover the storage benefits associated with containers for construction sites. Another way they’ve made sure the construction project will be safe is by making sure they follow health and safety signage guidance that has been placed around the construction site. This makes sure that all workers know what the rules are, keeping everyone on the same page.
S.C. Hondros & Associates, Inc. and Piedmont Plastics have a multi-project history with each another – in 1997 Hondros designed and constructed the original building at this site and in 2011 Hondros renovated Piedmont Plastics’ corporate headquarters on West W.T. Harris Boulevard in Charlotte.
